Work with me

Good writing should still sound as though somebody wrote it.

Whether you are building a brand, running a publication, trying to make a complicated subject intelligible or simply staring at a perfectly competent draft that somehow refuses to sound alive, the words matter.

I work with clients who need writing that is clear, thoughtful and useful without losing the personality that makes people want to keep reading. Sometimes that means taking an idea from a brief and turning it into a finished article. Sometimes it means untangling an existing draft. Sometimes the research is excellent and the structure is sound, but the prose has acquired that curious quality that makes every paragraph sound bloodless. That can usually be fixed. To my mind rhythm and judgement matter just as much as search engines, briefs and brand guidelines.

What I can help with

SEO Blog Posts & Articles

I create informative, well-structured articles designed around genuine reader intent, with clear headings, natural keyword use and enough substance to answer the question that brought somebody to the page in the first place. The aim is content that works for search without making the reader feel as though they have accidentally wandered into a keyword warehouse.

This includes evergreen blog posts, informational articles, how-to guides, list-based content, product-led pieces and longer researched features.

Editorial & Lifestyle Writing

I write engaging editorial content across books, culture, food, travel, home, parenthood, personal development and everyday life. These pieces can be conversational or polished, practical or reflective, depending on the publication and its audience, but they should always feel considered rather than assembled.

Research-Based Articles & Explainers

I can research and develop articles that take dense information, competing sources or unfamiliar ideas and turn them into clear, accessible prose without flattening the subject into something simplistic. I am particularly interested in literature, education, gender, culture and social issues, business and law, although I am happy to work beyond these areas where the brief requires careful research.

Literary & Educational Content

With an academic background in English literature and an abiding interest in books, language and education, I write literary essays, reading guides, educational articles, learning material and other content intended for readers, students and educational platforms.

The goal here is not to make literature sound impressive. Literature has survived perfectly well without our assistance. It is to make ideas interesting, intelligible and worth discussing.

Editing & Proofreading

Sometimes a piece does not need to be rewritten. It simply needs somebody to notice what is getting in its way.

I edit for clarity, structure, repetition, tone, grammar, awkward phrasing and consistency while preserving the writer’s original voice wherever possible. Depending on the project, this may involve a light proofread, a more substantial line edit or a closer reworking of passages that are technically correct but not yet doing quite what they ought to.

AI Draft Humanisation & Rewriting

If you have an AI-assisted draft that feels generic, repetitive, over-polished or strangely unlike the person or brand meant to be speaking, I can reshape it into writing with a more natural voice, better sentence variety, stronger transitions and a clearer sense of intention.

This is not simply a matter of replacing a few words with synonyms and hoping nobody notices. The aim is to make the piece read naturally because it has been properly reconsidered, not cosmetically disguised.

How I work

Every project begins with the brief.

I will want to know what you are trying to create, who it is for, what you want the reader to understand or do by the end of it, and whether there is an existing tone, publication style or brand voice I should follow. If you have reference material, research, keywords or examples of writing you particularly like, those are useful too.

From there, I research where necessary, write or edit the piece, and revise it with the finished purpose in mind rather than treating the first draft as sacred.

I take deadlines seriously, communicate clearly and would much rather ask one useful question at the beginning than make an elaborate series of assumptions and present them beautifully formatted at the end.

A note on voice

I do not believe every client should sound like me.

A children’s education company, a literary magazine, a travel brand and a technology business should not emerge from the editing process speaking in suspiciously identical sentences. Good commercial writing requires enough flexibility to understand the voice a particular piece needs and enough restraint not to impose another one upon it.

What I do bring consistently is care: for the research, for the reader, for the language and for the small decisions that separate writing that merely communicates from writing people actually enjoy reading.

Have a project in mind?

If you are looking for a writer or editor for an article, blog, editorial project, educational piece or existing draft, I would be happy to hear what you are working on.

You can send me a brief outline of the project, the approximate word count, your preferred deadline and anything else you think I ought to know through the Contact page.

If it sounds like a good fit, we can take it from there.
