I’m reading Cold Comfort Farm by Stella Gibbons today, and I had forgotten how satisfying it is to watch one perfectly composed young woman arrive among a family of spectacular eccentrics and begin, very placidly, to reorganise their lives.
It is sharp, ridiculous, beautifully observant, and exactly the sort of book that makes you want to keep interrupting whoever is nearby to read bits aloud.
So tell me: what are you reading right now, and is it behaving itself?
